When my village sacrificed me to the dragons, I went willingly to the Altar Rock to die.

But I didn’t die.

I wake up in a castle built into a huge mountain. House Fra’Hir is one of many castles in the Drakoryan Empire. It is here I learn the truth — that women like me aren’t taken away to be devoured, but to be mated.

My mates, four sons of a dragon knight slain in the last battle of the ShadowFell, are unique both in personality and carnal abilities. They introduce me to the world of pleasure. In their bed chambers, they prepare me with masterful skill for the final, ultimate bond that will make me truly theirs.

But I am no passive mate. I make two vows to myself – to remember the village I left behind, and to remain strong. I will need that strength, not just to satisfy the insatiable appetites of my dragon lords, but to face the looming threat that will soon threaten both the Drakoryan and humans alike.

Since being claimed as a Drakoryan mate, I've had to adjust to a new life. With four mates, it is not always easy. And the challenges are getting greater.

War is coming. After hundreds of years of sleep, the ShadowFell Dragons seeks revenge on the Drakoryans, the shifter race that drove them far from the Drakoryan Empire. And this time, the huge night dragons have their sights set on a prize they must not be allowed to claim. They covet the Drakoryan’s humanity, and seek the deep magic that will allow them to become shifters as well.

My mates seek to protect me from the awful reality, from what’s coming. They urge me to focus on running the household, on pleasing their insatiable sexual appetites. They tell me that war is of no concern for a woman.

But I am no ordinary woman. I am a Fire Bride, and when the human villages come under attack, the protectiveness of my mates threatens our bond. I was never supposed to return to the village, but not even an army of dragon lords can stop me from saving those I love.

Three dragon lords saved me. Now they plan to make me their own.

When the ShadowFell dragon destroyed my village, I alone survived the slaughter. A Drakoryan rescued me from where I clung to life in the bottom of a well. From the moment Lord Turin saw me, he was determined that he and his brothers would take me for a mate.

To do so would mean breaking the rules. Drakoryans bring mates to the empire only by special permission of the witches. But as war begins with the ShadowFell, everything has changed. The villagers from across the mountains have been brought here for protection. The time of sacrifice is at end, and the Lords of Za’vol are being allowed to take me as a specially designated mate – a War Bride.

I should be grateful that the Drakoryans saved me. But I know what they are. They are drake shifters. How can I accept their dragon side, when it was a dragon that robbed me of everyone and everything I held dear?

The Lords of Za’Vol are determined to mate with me, to form a lasting bond despite my fear of them. But I want something in return. I want to be brave, so brave that no man or beast can ever hurt me again. If the Drakoryans are to claim me, they must train me to fight.

For centuries, the Drakoryan lords have taken sacrificial maidens. As a village widow, I thought myself safe from their attentions.

I was wrong.

I am Thera the Healer, and I blame the Drakoryans for the death of my husband and father. They were killed before our dragon lord rulers resettled us in the Drakoryan Valley ahead of war with the ShadowFell.

Now our dragon lord rulers seek to recruit village men into their army to fight the enemy. I seek to convince my people that the enemy is not some black dragon we have never seen, but the one who keeps us.

Now the Drakoryans are accusing me of sedition, and seek to neutralize my influence in a manner I will not accept. They plan to wed me to five Drakoryan lords tasked with keeping order in my village

They won't get what they want without a fight

Read the standalone backstory...

Three dragon lords. One reluctant maiden. And only one long night to claim her.

Syrene does not come to Altar Rock as a willing sacrifice. Angered by her village’s eagerness to give her to the dragons, she defiantly sees death as an escape.

But the dragon who comes doesn't see her hatred. He only sees her beauty, and carries her home to share as mate with his shifter brothers.

Now the Lords of Jo’lyn wonder if they haven’t made a mistake. Syrene is as defiant of them as she was of the village she believes rejected her. She swears she will not give herself to even one Drakoryan lord, let alone three.

But the three dominant dragon shifters will not be refused. With the survival of their bloodline hanging in the balance, they are determined to find creative ways to woo their wild mate before the sun rises once more over the empire.

**This book is a standalone supplement to the Drakoryan Brides series, and tells the backstory of a character introduced in Fire Bride.
